The effortlessly smooth glide of the zipper is a testament to more than 30 years of research and innovation at Raccagni, one of the world’s preeminent zipper-manufacturers.
The Troubadour team spent months researching and meeting with top zipper makers. When we visited the Raccagni factory we immediately knew we wanted to work with them. Based just outside Bergamo in northern Italy, Raccagni is a family business started 30 years ago by husband-and-wife duo Italo and Daniela Raccagni. Today, their three children run the company with them, and the obsessive dedication to their products has made the Raccagni name synonymous with quality.
The production process focuses on ensuring a smooth zipper movement and a superb quality finish. To make sure the slider on each Raccagni zipper glides easily, the zipper’s teeth are polished to a high shine before being affixed to the tape. This is a far more specialized and time-consuming process than your basic mass-produced zippers. It’s also an essential step on the path to perfection as it decreases the likelihood of a zipper jam.
“Our philosophy is simple yet unflinching,” says Italo. “If we make a perfect product today, tomorrow we’re going to improve it. It is essential to forever take new measures to improve quality.”
Outside of its deep founding family roots the factory is proud to still employ craftspeople who’ve been there since day one. These experts keep a watchful eye on the machines and lend their technical expertise, creativity and experience every step of the way.
“The most important thing is the passion of our people – the pursuit of excellence, commitment to quality and stellar client service. For us, this is not a workplace, but our home. Our family name goes on the products we make. It’s a matter of pride and honour.“– Cristiano Raccagni
